The 1971 Chevy Nova features a 350 cubic-inch (5.7 L) V-8 turbo-fire engine which delivers 245 horsepower. It is a rear-wheel drive manual 2-door coupe, made popular by several famous movies such as Pulp Fiction and Death Proof.

A new chapter for the former Joyland Amusement Park will begin this year as McCurdy Auction is set to auction the Wichita landmark November 7.

The 57 acre property, which served as a popular attraction for families for over five decades, will be sold at public absolute auction regardless of price.

“This is a familiar property, just about everyone has a favorite memory of Joyland,” Braden McCurdy, CEO and auctioneer of McCurdy Auction said. “This is a rare opportunity to acquire 57 acres with such strong visibility and accessibility.”

The Nelson Family is proud they were able to provide a place for good, quality entertainment for generations of families, but it is time for the next chapter.

The property offers a tremendous redevelopment opportunity with frontage along I-135, Southeast Blvd, Hillside Ave and surrounding city streets.

Opening in 1949, Joyland was once considered the largest amusement park of the southwest. The park permanently closed in 2006. Many of the iconic rides and attractions have been relocated or deconstructed.

FROM THE SELLERS: Historic Brunswick Hotel Information

The historic Brunswick has served Lindsborg, Kansas and the surrounding area in many different forms since it was first built in 1887: as a pioneer-era hotel, where visitors stayed, and salesmen sold their wares in what was once the “Sample Room,” the large room at the southeast end of the building off Main Street. Many distinguished visitors—such as Teddy Roosevelt, Wild Bill Hickock, and Jenny Lind—signed their names in the guest books in its early days; and in recent times the Brunswick played host to an honorary dinner for Anatoly Karpov, the chess grandmaster who founded his only United States Chess School in Lindsborg.

The Brunswick once served as home to the American Legion, which, incidentally, took the original stone fireplace of the Brunswick with them to their new facility off Harrison-Cole. During the 1950s the Brunswick served veterans as a boarding house, overseen by Frank and Katherine Frantz. It has been a popular restaurant and bar (the original bar, which was once in the main dining room, is now in The Ol’ Stuga, across the street). In modern times it once again became a restaurant, then was renovated as a bed and breakfast.  For a time it housed visiting artists, and even had accounting and law offices. Most recently, the Brunswick housed a center for film studies, which included screenings of many obscure, independent, and art films.

When the Brunswick was first built, it was one of the most modern buildings of its kind, delivering steam heat and electricity to the entire building. Testament to the size of the building’s first HVAC system is the tank that remains in one of the basement rooms. Horsepower energy of the real kind existed, however, as one elderly former employee of the Brunswick related that a stable once existed in the basement area.

The most well-known of all the Brunswick hosts was Robert Weddell and his wife, whose father, George Shields, was a co-owner of the building. Their daughter Ramona, was born in the room now christened the “Ramona Room,” located in the southeast corner of the second floor. Ramona later married a young artist named Lester Raymer. They moved into the small house next door, which is now a museum devoted to Lester Raymer’s work.

When the Brunswick was renovated in modern times, the third story was removed, the cupola was repositioned on the remaining second floor, and brick fireplaces were built in the lobby and in the room directly above. A large, open bar-restaurant area was created on the second floor; many residents of Lindsborg recall memories of sitting in this area, sipping their drinks while they watched a snowfall or rainstorm. The restaurant eventually became one of the most popular in McPherson County, serving about 300 guests a day.

The building has been unoccupied since November of 2016, because the owners had to relocate to North Carolina. The electricity is on, while gas and water have been “winterized.” A structural engineer recently inspected the building, concluding that the Brunswick was the most structurally sound building of that age he had ever seen—no cracks, water damage, or even settling. In modern times, steel I-beams were installed in strategic places when the Morton building was added; and the building’s brick façade was carefully “pintucked.”  Renovation of the building had begun before the current owners moved out, so carpets have been ripped out, walls have been taken down, drywall removed, and so on.

Everyone in Lindsborg—and, indeed, many other places—has a story to tell of their experiences at the Brunswick, whether it was a wedding, a special dinner, or a prom; and many people living in Lindsborg had their first job there or just worked at the Brunswick at one time or another.

ABOUT LINDSBORG: Located in McPherson County, Kansas, Lindsborg, which was founded in 1869 by Swedish pioneers, now has a population of 3,458. Nicknamed  "Little Sweden," Lindsborg celebrates its Swedish heritage every two years with the pioneer-themed Svensk Hyllngsfest. And throughout the year traditional holidays receive a special Swedish twist: Twelfth Night in January; a MayDay/Midsummer’s Festival in June; and the St. Lucia Festival in mid-December. Lindsborg has three museums, including the Lester Raymer Red Barn Museum, the Birger Sandzein Gallery located on the Bethany College campus, and the Old Mill Museum and Swedish Pavilion. Known for its love of coffee and home-made pastries, which can be found in various cafes and restaurants around town, Lindsborg has many art, music, and cultural events, including the historic Easter performances of Handel’s Messiah, which features world-class singers and musicians in its annual program. It is also home to the only Anatoly Karpov Chess School in the United States.

A quintessential American-made street machine, the 1977 Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am was made famous after its role in the classic movie Smokey and the Bandit. With its T/A 6.6 Liter 400cid V-8 engine block reaching 200 HP at 4,000 RPMs, this T/A was made to cruise.

Its hard-nose style epitomizes the excess and indulgence of American racer-style cars of the late 1970’s. The long front end houses the engine block which pushes 325 lbs of torque at 2,200 RPMs and has a compression ratio of 8.0:1 (or if you go by the words of Pete McCarthy it’s an 8.2:1).

Owned by only 3 owners since 1977, this well-cared for Trans-Am sports new brakes, buckskin interior color, leather seats and a new stereo system.
